A further study by the University of Scranton suggests that only 8% of people actually keep the resolutions they make. While that can be a discouraging statistic, and you may feel that the odds are stacked against you, there are things you can do to make your resolution more achievable. Here are a few pro tips for being that change that you want to see in the world.

Think Macro; Act Micro

If you want to save money, for example, define and then refine your goal. Rather than making a goal of just saving more, decide how much you want to save and then make reasonable plans to save small amounts of money on a daily or weekly basis. Saving just $5 per day five days a week adds up to over $1,300 at the end of the year.

Apply the same principle to exercise. If you want to run a marathon, begin by resolving to run 20 minutes 3 times per week for a month. The next month, you can increase the frequency and duration until one day you can actually run a marathon. Pro tip – this approach also helps prevent injuries.
